Payment Processing, Inc. was founded in March 1995 by ICVerify. Chuck Smith was hired as the General Manager. In late 1996, ICVerify decided to focus their efforts elsewhere, so Chuck Smith negotiated a purchase of PPI. He was confident he could build a company that addressed the complex problems associated with integrating payment processing technology, and of the growing need for his solutions.

Today, PPI is the most successful company in the world focused on integrated payment processing, helping over 500 software companies and more than 10,000 merchants with efficient, cost-effective payment solutions.

In 2004, PPI including PPDirect processed more than $2 billion in Visa and MasterCard payments.
